I know there is a thread on "what rare parts do you have on your car"
But this is a little different.
S13's and S14's were offered with many different options that many buyers opted out of, thus making them a coveted rarity today.
Some well known examples are the creamy yellow two-tone, and lavender frost color schemes dropped after one year, and the rare oem trunk luggage rack.

This thread is so we can discover these oem rareties and share them with others.

It can be anything from the varities of jdm two-tones, to rare models, parts, or accessories. The only requirement is that it HAS TO BE OEM.

Here are some examples, and their backgrounds:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/Yurikaze/coolbox.jpg
This is the "coolbox" option for the S13 Silvia. The box inside the glovebox is ducted into the a/c system, and used to cool drinks.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/Yurikaze/lavenderfrostmetalic_171.jpg
Lavender frost. This color was offered in the US only in 1989. In Japan it was offered on the Silvia as a two-tone scheme, and was still offered on the SR-powered S13's

I should be getting a 1989 silvia sales brochure, so maybe more parts will present themselves, like the oem turbo timer.

WOW. I had no idea about that cool box.
Lavender frost actually looks dope. aha.
Anyway, I guess I'll contribute, but I'm sure people are sick of seeing it by now.

It's because a two-tone paint job makes the car look longer and lower, reduces the visual height of the car. Plus, because the lower portion is dark, it blends with the shadow under the car, also making it look lower.

No, its because twotones are the shit.

All that other stuff, you're just imagining things.

my hatchback was originally that color, plus i see at least 2 of the blue/gray 2 tones in my town once a week.

plus i'm kicking myself because there was a minty/gray 2 tone for sale before i bought my 240...didn't realize at the time how rare they were..

lastly there was a creme/beige 2 tone in my local junkyard that got crushed recently :( (as well as 2 other nice red hatches..one of which gave up its black interior to me)

You are all going to hate me because I'm repainting it lavender frost. Although if everyone keeps jumping on the as yet unstarted lavender frost bandwagon, I may have to just repaint it the stock color.:squint:

But enough of this turning into a "I have a USDM two-tone" thread, let's see some other stuff.:bigok:

Cash, is there suppose to be a picture or something?
I love that mint green with silver two-tone paint. There was a S13 coupe in that exact scheme in my neighborhood, just sitting for months... I finally worked up the courage to go talk to them about possibly buying it (at the time not knowing if they'd even sell it) and they said they sold it the day before... for $500... :( It ran, was a 5spd and its only problem that I could see was a broken drivers window. I was a very sad panda that day.

I believe that those were the 1996 base model seats. They arent my taste personally. Here are the base seats in my '95, I have only seen those seats you posted in 96' model base series S14's.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/DopefishLives/240sx/240sxC2.jpg

I just swapped my seats for SE cloth seats from a 96' model which I believe are identical from 95-98 but dont qoute me... I'll post pics of them tomorrow morning. From what I've seen the Japanese SE cloth seats are similar but of a differant pattern, unless the pattern changed in 97 and was shared in both markets.

lol! ok that was pretty funny.

here's my contribution to the thread:

Automatic models also feature Nissan's "DUET-EA" system, an electronic link between the engine control module (ECM) and the transmission designed to facilitate smoother, more controlled shifts. Many users have been known to circumvent this system however in favor of a more "sports car" feeling to the ride, similar to that of an agressivley shifted manual transmission.

1. S13s never came equipped with alarms or keyless entry, hence NO POSSIBLE NEED FOR A Valet Override.
2. That blank switch panel has had a hole drilled thru it to accept that toggle. OEM Nissan doesn't gay stuff up like that.

I saw a purple-ish looking zenki with a pin stripe down the length of the car.

Does that count? Sorry, I didn't have a camera on me.

I'm 100% sure it was OEM pin stripe.
My old Zenki was Concord Grey(only available in 95) and it had a factory pin stripe along the side. It was pretty dam ugly.

i also had black rubber fender liners.

no clue if they were OEM.

I can finally shed some light on the whole Silvia club's thing.

Starting with the SR20 equipped Silvias, Nissan released the "Art Force" editions. One was oriented towards performance (the Silvia Club's) whereas another was centered on luxury, (the Silvia Diamond's). The Club's could be ordered on any hardtop Silvia, the J's,Q's,or K's, while the Diamond's could be had on all those models, and when the limited edition Silvia convertible came out, it is rumored that the Diamond's package was standard.
I don't know yet what specific parts seperated the packages except what I have already said.

The badges were different from the standard badges, as they were chrome, and had a little diamond or club as part of the badge. The diamond's badge is easy to get, which is ironic, as most ppl don't know the diamond's package existed.
Here's a K's diamond badge:

and here's the cover of the Silvia Art Force editions brochure:

I found a real Silvia Club K's at a local shop.
It had no front end on it, but from what I could tell by checking it out, here are some specifics on this particular car:
Club K's emblem (Chrome with black K's, and small black clubs to the left of the K's. The word "clubs" is in red below the clubs logo.)
silver Twin cam turbo intercooler script on black trim below K's emblem
Gold Silvia trunk badge
Digital climate control
tweed-like standard interior with adjustable headrests.
no sunroof
teardrop alloys
slightly lower ride-height (doesn't appear to be aftermarket)
SR20 Silvia K's trunk wing.

Oh snap! You're 100% right.
I should've specified USDM S13s never came with that.
The system on that 180sx was stock. The key fob had a little IR transmitter (like a remote control) which was received by a little 1.5" high doodad up on the corner of the dash on the drivers side (JDM driver side).
I remember trying to get in to the car and being unable to because I was using the fob like it was transmitting a radio signal. I gave up and used the damn key.
That was a nice 180.

Mine was a 95 Concord grey SE. Cloth interior, front lip, white gauges, 5 lug, 5 speed. No Lsd, No abs, No sunroof. It was basically a base model with 5 lug and a lip.

dude, how is that rare? most se's didn't have lsd or abs. the lip, white gauges, and 5 lug were all pretty common on se's. rare would be a s14 with lsd and no abs (ultra-ultra-rare)....

I guess SE with almost no options wasn't as rare as I thought

Your car does kinda kill the earlier theory about the auto's being the only ones without the LSD.

So I guess all I got is the "single model year color"

Not sure how rare, but i'd like to know if someone could find figures. Believe they did come with a LE badge though. Probably pretty rare, considering that less than 8000 USDM koukis were sold total and most people haven't seen/heard of an LE...

there were 3655 koukis sold in 1997 and 2178 sold in 1998, making a USDM kouki s14 more rare than a ferrari modena! of course "rarity" doesnt actually mean anything but lack of numbers...

okay, here goes:

1995 Production: 25,114
1996 Production: 7,334

that makes a grand total of 32,448 USDM zenkis. i would put the total number of kouki's at lower than 5,000: some were invariably lost to crashes, etc. just my guess. im glad i own 0.02% of the kouki community!

I just skimmed through this thread so I'm not sure if the following info has been posted.

From wikipedia... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Silvia)
The S13 was the first S-series car to use the J's (Jack), Q's (Queen), K's (King) naming for the different trim levels. The K's were the only model to receive the turbocharged engines. The Club Selection cars came with specific options bundled together. For example all Club Selection K's came with projector headlights, a rear spoiler, and aluminum wheels. There was also a Dia(mond) Selection model available for selected years that included another similar accessories bundle.

J's were the base model with a very basic interior, little electronics and are rarely found outside of Japan. The Q's model is middle-of-the-road. They received full electric options and an optional LSD. The K's were considered the top of the line and featured the turbocharged engine and the same full electric options as the Q's. K's have an LSD as standard equipment.

There also exists the rare and widely-disputed Silvia A's "Almighty." The only available engine was the normally-aspirated SR20DE.

From 200sx.org... (http://www.200sx.org/faq_1.html)
There was a limited edition S13 convertible, a few hundred cars were built by the factory to use up the last of the S13 coupe shells. All of the original cars were painted "Royal Blue", and had the fixed headlights of the Silvia, rather than the 180SX/240SX (PS13) pop-ups. There have been several conversions. The Autech package being the most common in Japan at least.
http://www.200sx.org/images/lowres/s13-conv.jpg

From a different wikipedia article... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_240SX)
In 1992, a convertible body style was added to the lineup. It was exclusive to North America and was partially assembled in Japan, with final assembly taking place in the California facilities of American Specialty Cars (ASC).

So the last two articles are contradictory?

Also here's some codes for those who are interested, from somewhere...

'90-'91 RS13 180SX CA18DET (R for fastback)
'91-'93 PS13 Silvia SR20DET (P for SR)

Good info,

I wonder why there was such a production drop from 95 - 96?

Also, are these worldwide production #'s or just for the US?

Numbers only reflect US cars. Seems like a lot of cars got killed or cut back due to OBD II changes (or whatever reason that caused many performance cars to be killed around 94-96ish). Also, the 240 got to be a rather expensive car: I think my car in 96 brand new was around $22k (I looked up price/options a while ago, not sure if thats correct), which is a little salty for the time.

axiomatik
03-08-2006, 06:38 PM
It didn't have anything to do with OBDII. There was just a huge drop in the 2-door market in the mid-90's. I think it had to do with the rise in popularity of SUV's. People started buying suv's for the family vehicle instead of sedans or minivans. Since suv's cost so much more then, people didn't have as much spare income to spend on a sporty 2-door. Plus, 240's were pretty damn expensive, if you think about it. In 98, a 240 cost around $22,000-25,000, whereas something like an Integra, cost about $18,000, and for the vast majority of the car-buying public, there isn't that much to differentiate the two.

I'd love to get the production numbers by trim level, transmission type, and color, to see exactly how many other '98 5spd Silver Moss LE's were made. I've asked Nissan a couple of times, but they've always said no dice.

Those "Silvia" rear S13 coupe windows (the small ones) are PIMPTACULAR. I just got a white S13 coupe last month, can anyone clue me in to where I might score those windows?

My 95 SE came with the gay rubber things on the doors, and all 4 wheel wells. God, when I took those things off, it was fucking disgusting. However, the 3 hours of peeling, scrubbing with goo gone, and then meguiars scratch-x were SO worth it.

Who else's S14 stock muffler has rust all down the drivers side of it? Every single 240 I looked at had the same rust line, and so do the junkyard ones I've found. That's rare.

Finally, I think we should make a seperate commerical & literature megathread. Because I've been searching all over for S-chassis commercials from any market.

Holy F&CK! Thats the badest hardtop convertible ever! I didn't even know it existed.

http://retractable.free.fr/pics/nivarietta15.gif

Is that for real? I didn't know they had S15 convertables....

ThatGuy

Yes, it's real. It was called the Varietta, as was already stated.

Look a little strange with the top up, but most convertible's do.

man, you can always count on ThatGuy to come through with the pictures, he must have saved EVERY SINGLE PICTURE EVER TAKEN of the 240/silvia/200/180/....

Maybe it was only called the 'Almighty' by people who actually bought it, make it seem more special than it really was.

why would it say 'ash tray' and 'non-smokers box'? it's a little self contradictory.

Ash Tray is written on there by the company that produced the ashtrays (be it Nissan or someone else). The 'Non Smokers Box' is a sticker applied later, presumably by the consumer. One would guess that it was the intention for that sticker to be applied over 'Ash Tray'.

If it's gotta be oem then I think my wind visors qualify. Got them used for $40. So do my oem mud flaps since I just got them NIB for $20 from some guy who had them sitting around for more than 10 years:
