ok so my work gave me a laptop. well not gave but you know.
anyways, at work i log on to a domain.
i brought the laptop home and i wanted to get on my home workgroup for some file sharing. so i changed membership from my work domain to my home workgroup and restarted.
then when the laptop starts up again i get the usual log on prompt, only now i can't log on.
should my login info be the same? is there no possible way to fix this now, besides nuking it? i'm the admin, so i should be able to do anything, right?

this happens all the time to new younger employees who get laptops at my last 2 jobs....take it back to the IT dept. and hear them yell at you about it

install a new copy of windows over the origional one. You wont lose any of your documents (maybe my doucument folder, but nothing else), but you will have to reinstall all of your programs.
Try signing in as guest with no password.
Try using the origional login in name you had when you first installed windows (this is assuming you didnt deleat it)
Thats all I got.

One thing I've found that worked in the past is:
1. Use the user name "admin" or "administrator"
2. don't enter a password
3. then press the login button
This has worked in the past on computers I've worked on.
Good luck

i think this is the best move if i can't get in tonight. the only document i need off of it is the measurements for my rollcage. lol. IT will probably just ghost a new image onto it and call it good.

this may work. that's a last resort though. i'd rather get in trouble for changing domain to workgroup than reinstalling windows.

my current login name is the first one i encountered. i didn't install windows either.

HI, may I know if it's XP or NT.
Edit: If it's NT look in winnt > system32 > config then change/edit/restore your 'sam'. BUT since you can't login whatsoever, use a bootdisk.
Select your registry directory then choose sam system security password reset then you're ready to roll unless you wan't to edit some more settings, just choose 'more'.

If you weren't able to do this just call your I.T. dept.
This worked for me for like 5 years ago (Methinks), but I usually just format everything...if this don't work or if I messed up or if I fucked up the registry and file system altogether.

i'm just gonna get a new image ghosted on tomorrow i guess. i hope. i think that's what they do anyway. something like that anyway.
thanks for the suggestions anyways.
If you're log into a domain normally there should be a dropdown list in the login. Select the computer (local) and you should log into the PC versus the network.
