Hi.
My boot is gone..
I thought that's tie rod boot, but it looks like CV boot.
So I figure that is rack and pinion boot.
Yeah.. so it's torn out and all the oil spilled.
So, here are my questions.
Have you guys driven FF car with torn out CV boot?
My S14 is like that...If I just fix the rack and pinion boot, will it be OK?
I don't wanna take bitch-ass tie rod out.. I think I can just slide in the boot.
Am I right?
Also, what kind of grease should I put in the boot?
Somehow, I see oil, not grease in the torn boot.
Thank you.

It's not oil, it's your power steering fluid (ATF) because your rack and pinion is leaking. It's not a big deal really, just use some Lucas Oil Power steering leak-stop. As for the boots, they're available through Nissan. They go for about $35 for both sides. Oh and you don't need to "grease up" the boots...

So just replace the boots and flush ATF huh?
No need to grease up like CV boot change...
Sounds so damn sweet to me!

you don't need to flush the atf. Just fill up the reservoir, and replace the tie rod boots. if you don't want leak, use the lucas stuff i mentioned.

The leak is not from the torn boot, thats the steering rack. The boot just fits over the ends of the rack and the tie rods. You will probably be fine just replacing the boots, theyre just there to keep out rocks and other debis from fucking up the steering rack.
If you want a proper diagnosis from the internet mechanics, pictures would help. Otherwise, if youre concerned enough about it, bring it to a shop.
Cliffnotes: Replace boot, drive car, if you run into problems with the steering rack/PS check back, fix it yourself, or bring it to a shop.
