Probably one of the most extreme mods I've ever seen done to a 240.
http://www.jouleinjected.com/

He ran a 13.6 quarter mile:

Must be creepy to have a 240 run at those speeds with only a low whisper to accompany it.

Wow... that's something I have NEVER seen before done to an s13.

That's just dandy.... Now we're gonna have all kinds of SR vs. Electric swap threads!

What does that make? About 35 different swaps for the 240? I lost count.

I also lost count of the countless swap options.

That things looks crazy though. I wanna see a video of it running, and how it sounds like.

even with the stock engine removed and the interior stripped, that car must weigh a ton with all those batteries

This info is kinda buried at the bottom of that one page:

Car was converted to electric in 2005. Weight is 3250 lbs. It has 25 marine batteries (1000 lbs) a 2000 amp motor controller and two 9" diameter DC motors running directly into the differential (no tranny). Gtech Pro data shows 190 HP and 650 ft-lbs torque. This car ran a 14.27 at 95 mph for its first time ever on the track with street tires and stock open differential...

650ft-lbs...AWESOME.

Cool stuff...!!!

Not only 13.6, but 13.6 in a 3200 lb. car.... Damn.

He should get a 1/2 mile long Extension cord. Could save alot of weight without the batteries.

If he had some $$$ he could switch to Lithium-Ion batteries and save some weight.

It's the rare JDM SR20 Copper Top!

At least there is a slight glimmer of hope. If we have to drive electric powered fuel cell sissy cars someday, I want a motor with that kind of power. Don't tell me it can't be done, we gots proof!

Electric cars with great acceleration will go a long way, I think. Just imagine if the EV1 or Insight were 7.0s 0-60.

I believe he's in florida, his email address is at a lake worth shop, and he ran that quarter mile at moroso.

The sweet thing about electric vehicles, is that you can get all of your torque right from the start. You don't need to worry about RPM's to get torque. So, image, 650-ft-lbs of torque from a standstill. Yeah, axle-breaking, tire-shredding goodness.

I'm in love. I've been researching EV's for many years. There is a milk-truck that was converted that was trying to break the record in speed. But, they kept shredding their drive-belts. Too much torque.

THis is great. I'm putting this one in favorites to continue to follow the progress.

The problem is that there is no torque at higher engine speeds. Sure you have a lot of torque at 0 rpms, but it drops off hella fast with engine speed.

Wow, welcome to the future:

Honda kid: "Sweet ride dawg, that 2-fizzle got a red-top?"

240 owner: "yep." (pops hood and shows off SR)

Honda kid: "No fool, I meant red-top Optimas"
