Just my two cents for anyone doing this mod. i just finished it up...works great and has a lot more power for all my electronics, especially at idle, where it counts.
anyway, you shouldnt need to do anything to the electical side, all mine fit perfectly. I have a 97 and used a 97 quest alternator though. I did use the 10mm bolt off the orginial alternator to connect the ground wire. the 8mm on the quest alternator seemed just too small to me, although the threads still lines up. go figure. drilling out the bottom mounting hole wasnt a big deal.
everyone says you cant reuse your pulley since it will rub on the housing, i said hogwash. i have an unorthodox racing pulley SET so i am going to use what i paid for. Get a 9/16 LOCK washer from lowes or whatever, and dremel out the inside a bit to get it to slip over the shaft of the quest alternator. It is a perfect thickness to use the 4 groove belt. I had to get a 30 inch belt, but that made me almost run of space to adjust. 29.5 or 29.75 would be best. however i am running all underdrive pulleys and so take your pick.
the adjusting bracket wont allow the alternator on unless you loosen the two bolts going into the block first, then get the alternator positioned and tightened up, the go back and tighten the bracket back down. dont over tighten though since is will be under a little more pressure and those bolts are really small.
ok good luck, any questions, email me.
