Hey all,

The pulley for the A/C on my Redtop SR broke a few weeks ago and I am finally getting around to replacing it.

Now BEFORE you flame me for not searching, know that I searched for this and could not find what i needed.

Would the pulley from a US sr20de motor work or should I use the KA pulley?

What is the part # of the pulley I need to use?

Thanks in advance,

Cash

my suggestion to you is buy somebody's used SR a/c compressor. They go for around $50 or so in the for sale section. If you still have your KA compressor it's worth pulling the pulley just to give it a shot or making the KA compressor work with your system. Also try searching on freshalloy as thats where I got a lot of info when I put the a/c in.

Maybe someone else around here can chime in and help out a little better. Good luck.

Not a bad idea.

One more question.

^ Couldnt i just take the pulley to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and have them try to match it up?

it's worth a shot, but I don't think most auto parts stores keep those types of parts in stock. An idea along those lines would be to take the pulley to a junkyard.

do you already have the pulley off? I'm kinda curious how the pulley and clutch work. What causes the clutch to engage? Sometimes mine kicks in and sometimes it doesn't. Occasoinaly mine kicks in with the a/c off (although it hasn't done that in a while to my knowledge)

Yes the pulley is out . . . but its at my parents house :(.

Here is a shot of the motor w/out the A/C pulley.

Note how my redtop SR has those neat lil fins :).

well, when your a/c is not running the pulley is spinning but the compressor is not (i think). When you turn on the a/c something causes the clutch in the pulley to engage causing the compressor to turn on. I don't know...thats why I was kinda curious how it works :)
