in december i bought some new phones for my gf and me, and they each had a $50 mail in rebate. so i filled out the rebate stuff and mailed it.

then today i got the rebates, in the form of debit cards. each card has a balance of the amount of my rebate. wtf is that? what ever happened to cutting someone a check? they must be making money off it somehow, to offset the production cost of the cards.

anyways, i just thought that was strange

is the debit card a VISA? MC? cause if so then the cc companies just taking the 3%, then probably giving the cell phone companies a break on percentage for cc processing for their bill payment or a break somewhere. that's my guess at least.

If it's a debit card, you can go straight to any ATM machine and width draw it out. But then again, you can't withdraw $50 from an ATM machine.

I got one of those cingular debit card things too... didn't mind too much though because I usually don't get my rebates back period.

I would personally rather receive a visa debit card, as opposed to having to take a rebate check to the bank to cash... I can use the card to pay for damn near anything I want... What a lot of people do with them is just activate them to turn and pay their phone bills down some with them.

u can only use it as a credit even though it says debit on it. i had the samething.
