View Full Version : Yet another 2 way oil question

So I just installed a Tomei 2way and used some 80w90 Valvoline gear oil and StaLube Equa-Torque (GM, Ford, Chrystler) LSD additive that comes in the white tube. My question is... how much of that LSD additive should I actually add. It comes in a little tube and the back says to add the entire contects into the diff, but I figure GM and Ford diffs probably hold more oil to begin with. I put the entire tube of it in, and now my diff is super quiet and it rarely clunks. I'm read through some past forums and some people have Tomei's that clunk, and others who don't. Just wondering if theres any harm in having too much additive....
Maybe I'm being a little meticulous, but I'd like to know for future reference because that additive starts to add up. ($10 a tube)
Help is appreciated... dont tell me to search because I did. Nowhere does it say how much LSD additive I should use...
If you don't know what you're talking about... don't post.

Alright, well KAAZ called me back, for future reference:
ANY conventional (i.e. nonsynthetic) gear oil is fine. 80w90 can handle track abuse as long as it's changed frequently (every 1-2 track events depending on the duration and conditions of the event). As for the Equa-Torque, there's no harm in adding the entire tube of it, as long as you add something. Running regular oil without lsd additive will wear out the clutch plates faster (according to Saji at Kaaz).
+1 for Kaaz customer service

It also depends on how you define a "track event". An autocross event or even drift event isn't comparable to roadracing where you run 15-20 minutes sessions.
The rule of thumb is to change all your fluids and filters before and after every track day if you roadrace. Do a visual inspection on the rest of the car. Also check brakes and tyres.

Ah yeah forgot to mention ... When I meant track day, I was referring to drift events where you run for half a day. For a full track day like Buttonwillow, change the oil before and after.

i change diff and engine oil every 2500-3000 and before and after events.

Yeah I've heard some people say their diffs are loud, and others say their diffs are quiet... (both tomei/kaaz)... strange....

If it was a Pennzoil or Jiffylube, its 75w90 gl-5 99.9% of the time.

the Sta-Lube Equa Torque makes the clunking go away. It's super quiet now.

funny thing is for my kaaz, it's only super duper quiet right after oil change, after couple of days/weeks, super clunk sounds again, i don't run additives, didn't know it was recommended, maybe that'll help lessen the clunk...
don't mind the noise as much though since it masks all my other creaking/squeaking sound haha

*sorry for stealing thread...I just bought a Tomei 2 way LSD.. so synthetic gear oil is fine right? Do I need any additive for that? Any good brands? (for Tomei users)

if you scroll up to the post and actually READ IT... it clearly says NO SYNTHETIC OIL. please read the thread before you ask a question... I pretty much covered the other info, so don't ask....read....

Yeah, I've been using a whole bottle of Ford additive every time I fill up my diffl. Works great every time. Valvoline and Ford additive works better than the Kaaz oil and hell if I'm paying for a bottle of that every month or two.

if youre running a Kaaz.. or similar style of diff.. try Torco Gear Oil... that shit rocks... dude from Kaaz told me that the Torco LSD kit is just about the best, next to Kaaz oil..
