Hello,

I bought a 1.5 way Nismo diff off of ebay (probably my first problem there). It was advertised as being for an Open Differential. After spending about 4 hours yesterday attempting to install it, it would appear that the Open Diff output shafts do not fit at all. We labeled everything L and R when we took the diff out as to not confuse anything. What is strange is that the L output shaft fits in the R side of the diff and the R output shaft does not fit in the L side of the diff. I would assume this means I would need some VLSD output shafts. If anyone could confirm or deny this I would appreciate it. I am basically trying to find out what makes the VLSD shafts/casing different from the Open Diff shafts/casing, I would assume it is the length of the output shafts, but I want 100% confirmed answers and every post I looked up just told the people asking questions to search and didn't give any real answers.

If what I am assuming is right, then does anyone know a way I could get some VLSD output shafts? I would rather not sell the whole thing and have to buy another diff, but if I have to I will, and if anyone on here happens to have a LSD for an Open Diff and wants to trade for one for a VLSD let me know.

Thanks
Stephen

I'm not gonna say I'm correct, but I had a Nismo 1.5way as well. IIRC they were installed in an r33 pumpkin with the jdm 5 bolt output shafts (180sx, z32). I would try going to a junkyard, and finding a cheap z32 vlsd. Then install the nismo 1.5way into the pumpkin and it should work. Don't forget to buy the axels if you end up buying the diff.

I have a R32 VLSD (5 bolt axles) with Axle's that you can have for the price of Shipping (From FPO-AP, it would be like shipping from San Francisco) I dont need it any more because I have a KAAZ 2 way.

^I'd say go for it. VLSD and axels at the yard will average about 200 bucks. Shipping with the internals taken out... should be around $80 if packaged separately.

I didn't think I was going to be able to find any, so I ordered a new one already, my car is up in the air and I wanted to be able to just throw the LSD in and drive it rather then put the open diff back in it and do the whole proceder over again.

I really appreciate that off though. Maybe you could tell me, I'd assume because of what you offered me this is correct, but, are the JDM VLSD half shafts and USDM VLSD half shafts the same? Meaning, could this LSD fit in a JDM pumpkin w/ JDM half shafts just as well as it would fit in a USDM one?

Thanks
Stephen
