View Full Version : 8 guage wires for 300 watt amp??

so.. will it work??? my brother has a 300 watt amp that he will let me barrow... i just dont wanna fry it... is 8 guage too much for that 300 watt kenwood? thanks if i get any... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Perhaps you mistyped your question.
8 guage wire should be fine for a 300 watt amplifier.
As long as you put an inline fuse on the cable close to the battery as possible with a fuse rated just slight above the amplifier you should be fine.

Ya dont worry. &nbsp;The 8 gauge should be fine. &nbsp;I know people, including myslef running 4 gauge wire. &nbsp;Though for mine, its splint in a fuse box. &nbsp;Is the amp 300 watts RMS or MAX???

hmm.. its a kenwood.. it may be max.. im not sure.. its for my bro's 10's.. this ill be for one 12.. cause im not sure i should run 2 12's on a 300watt amp.. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

8 guage is plenty.
I ran 8 guage w/ my 800 watt Rockford Fosgate w/ no problems whatsoever.
Definatey make sure to remember to fuse it though, preferably as close to the battery as possible
