Hey, im trying to change my clutch on a dohc s13 right now but the very top bolt close to the starter is being a bitch. I did some searches and lots of people said they jacked up either the tranny or the motor and used tons of extensions to get at the bolt either from the bottom or the engine bay. I was gonna do the same thing but i had some questions before I did it. Where do I jack up either the motor or tranny from? I read that some people jacked the motor till it was hitting the firewall. Does that mean i jack up the motor side? Is it gonna mess up my motor mounts. Also, there was one post that said something about he put a jack under the motor so the motor wouldnt "fly off" or something after he took out the tranny. What does that mean cuz i dont really get that part. Anyways thanx alot for any help you guys can give me....i really gotta get my car running cuz its my only transportation. This is my first post on here so i tried to search first. hopefully this is in the right thread section. shootz thanx alot

i didn't have to jack up the tranny or the motor when swapping trannys.
swivels are your friend. =]

Unbolt the transmission member, it will allow the back end to hang down, giving you a clear shot of the top bolts.

ok im gonna go try it out. I had a floor jack under the tranny cuz i didnt want it just hanging. Maybe thats why it never worked. Thanx so much. shootz

hey i got out the tranny and now i gotta take out my flywheel to get it resurfaced. I read on some searches that people used a impact gun or a screwdriver, or something about bolting someothing by the ten o clock position. Could someone explain it to me in more detail? Also, i called up checker and they never had a pilot bearing puller tool. is there any other way to take it out without the tool. thanx alot shootz

Ok flywheel bolts are torqued to like 80 foot pounds if you have access to an impact gun use that to take the bolts out, but do it in a cross pattern. If not you can make a simple flywheel lock out of a piece of angle iron like I did. Just bolt the lock in such a way that the flywheel will not spin...simple.
Glad to see you got that bolt, it is a tough one.

Have someone hold the crank pulley in place, or wedge a breaker bar against the frame rail.
For the pilot bushing, it's just brass so you can beat it out with a screwdriver easily, it will break apart with just a few hits. Make sure to use an emory cloth to clean out the crank snout before installing the new one.
