So I went in to a shop to get my new dunlop FM-901 tires put on -- a pleasant change from the Eagle's that leak air and have the soggiest sidewalls since soaked sandwich bread.

Anyway I got the first good look of my car's under carriage since buying it, including looks at my brakes and suspension components while it was on the lift in the shop.

First of all I noticed this thick, black gunk coating my transmission-- and was wondering what on earth it could be. Tranny fluid is what common sense tells me, but I don't know what color this stuff is supposed to be, or how thick/viscous it should be.
Looking at this stuff was really disgusting... black and thick, sticky a coating on the underside (and sides) of the tranny. Where would/could this be leaking from, and how important is it for me to clean this up/refill?
i.e. is it life-threatening to my car?

on another note, I was at the shop to put my new Dunlop FM-901s onto the stock steelies. I have a 205/55/15 size on the steelies, and they fit perfectly. No (not much/negligible) bulge and a nice, fat(ter) stance. I haven't had a real good chance to test them out yet, but am looking forward to taking the car up to the hills some time soon.
The tires look absolutely GREAT. The treads just beg to be showed off--
I think I might start parking my car with the steering wheel at full lock. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Furthermore, pretty much ALL the bushings in my suspension look shot to hell and back! Which can I replace easily with hand tools and jackstands, and which will I need to get (professionally) installed/pressed/installed? I'm looking to whiteline for all my suspension bushing needs, but is there someone else who makes stuff for our cars (180sx)?

Thanks.

EEk! I have no clue why tranny oil would be leaking. It shouldn't be too thick but when mixed with road debris it would look like you described...
I would clean it up real good, change your tranny oil, and see if it starts accumulating that "goo" again.

Are you sure it is tranny fluid? &nbsp;Oil can get back there too, you know. &nbsp; If you can't tell by color, I'd clean it, go for a drive or two, then come back and look at the color b/f it turns to black goo. &nbsp;First things first is to know what is leaking!
