Thinking about selling the 240... Need some advice

So due to some unfortunate circumstances, I have been forced to get together as much cash as possible to prepare to move into my own place. To make the story as short as possible, I have told I am no longer welcome in the place I have considered my one true home for 23 years.

Some of you have or may have not noticed but i have been selling a lot of random things, liek my digi cam, and random stuff I was plannign on using for the Datsun build... So now I been contemplating selling the 240.

So the idea is to sell it and buy a 91 - 94 sentra. My theory is better mpg and I wont have anywhere near the motivation to spend money on to fix up. Having the 240 in my possesion all I want to do is do things to make it the car I always wanted....

So the help I need is this, I have been searching, and found to good info on the sentra, but I have not foudn a forum specifically geared towards that car. If anyone knows of one please add the link.

Im still searching for info on the car to really see what I would be getting into, but I thought id toss the idea on here and see if you guys knwo anything about the car and can add it here.

Also I was thinking about putting the 240 on craigslist and offering to trade it for a sentra. I noticed the avg price is between 1200 and 2000. Do you all think it owuld be better to sell the 240 first then purchase a sentra or would a straight up trade be a better idea?

I found a pretty nice one for liek 1500 in Oakland that the seller said has doen all the mandatory tune up to.. but it has some weird AMSOIL system oil filtration or what not I have never heard of before... I am not sure if I can post the link to the car in here, since I am askign for advice, and not sellign anything... but I guess I will wait for a few responses to see what i should do.

I really dont wanna get rid of the 240, since its been a car I wanted for a while... but my situation cals for me to get as much cash together as possible so I think this is something I need to do.

If some of you are puzzled by the choice of the sentra I cant really explain it.. I like the look fo the square type body, liek my datsun... its still nissan which is a plus... and well.. its NOT a honda.

So yea.. sorry if the post was kinda vague as to what help i needed haah, Im still kinda dazed that I have to find another place to live... Ill prolly have more questions later so thanks in advance for anyone who helps out ^_^

Is your 240 not really reliable? If it is I would keep it, it's always a hassle to sell a car and then buy a new one.

You also take a risk not knowing everything about the car you are buying. You can fix up b13 sentra's just as easy as 240, its not hard to quit spending on your car until you have cash. Good luck.

so what is actually wrong with the car? and i would suggest a trade..because alot of people now are trying to get into rwd, and the drifting scene is pretty crazy on craigslist man..

i say you put ur price high, then offer a trade also..

just my advice.. but post what is wrong with ur 240

Its not really about my 240 being unreliable. Other than the the usual parts that age with time, theres nothing wrong with the car. But, as you all know the best thing about owning a fun car liek the 240 is being able to really mod it up to make it the way you like it... With whats going on right now I jsut need a affordable solid car, that I wont want to put a lot of money into, which is why I chose the sentra.

The cool thing is I was talkin to a friend and he said a lot of guys use the cars for autoX so I guess theres a least some kind of value to the car so if I ever need to resell it wont be totally impossible... I dunno.. im jsut exploring ideas here anyway to get xtra money ya know.. im pretty sure the 240 can sell for about 2500 which is the avg price in my area... and i can get a sentra for 1500 so thats a good $1000 for bills and rent. At least thats the idea...

yea putting it up for a trade sounds liek the best idea tome too. Im gonna try to jack up the price.. but I will try to get a fair price.. I was hopin maybe a trade plus a lil bit of cash.. would be an ideal trade for me... well see how it goes.. ima get some better pics of the car tomorrow and post it up....

Well theres some family probs here at home and my aunt moved in with her husband and three kids and shes not the best person lets jsut say that, so we got in an argument the other day because I told ehr she needed to respect the rest of the ppl in the house, especially my grandmother, who is not in the best health with the added stress of all the kids and ppl in the house... and I guess she complained to her dad (my grandfather) and he said im no longer welcome in the hosue since im causing problems....

wow so that amsoil thing really is a filter and you dont have to change it for hella days... hmm it jsut seems like soemthing that i could possibly have probs with. I shold call them and see how hard it is to switch back to normal system.. anyone ever use one of these kind of systems before?

yea. man. the situation ur in sucks man.. i've actually been there b4. i stepped up to my step dad, telling him he needs to give me some respect in order to get some. and he gave me 1 week to move out, so i packed y shit and went to my friends house..later down the line i signed up for "maintence" at these apartment comlexes in lafayette, ca and i got the job..so right now i'm living rent free, as long as i paint aparments and attend to our tenants calls.

but about that sentra man.. i would preffer u trying to get a se-R condisering the fact that they come with stock sr20's, the sr20 in it is cheap, but it has potential movitation.

and about your housing situation..if all else fails bro, my doors are well open if u ever need a place to stay.

If you do end up getting a Sentra, may I suggest that you DO NOT join any Sentra forums. It'll only end up encouraging you to fix it up. Just treat it like any POS car -- drive it, put gas in it, keep the coolant topped off, do the occasional oil change.

keep the 240 if u do sell it and buy a sentra i douth u ll notice the mpg.
i get 30mpg with my car on the freeway.

Damn, all this went down when I was gone? Hope everything works out. But I don't think the sentra 91-94 B13 would be a great car to go with. Because if that was me, I'd mod the hell out of it. Thx for all the info guys... as well as suggestions.. and Ant if lafayette wasnt so far from where I live I would take you up on that safeway offer for sure. But I am almost finished with my fine arts degree at chabot so I want to stay in this area til I am done. The I will be hopefully going to the academy in SF or maybe CSEB depending on what I can afford haha.

As far as the sentra goes.. ive been reading and liek the link I posted, most guys say they get between 35 and 40, and right now thats a lot better than my 240.

Ramblux.. I agree with you.. I will prolly stick to zilvia sicne it does have the SR in it I should prolly be able to find any mechanical help I need on here.

Amsoil was the first synthetic automobile engine oil on the market. It is one of the best. It has extended drain intervals because it does not break down as quickly as conventional oils i.e. it retains its viscosity even under high heat conditions. The remote filtration setup on that car is dope. If I am correct thats the setup that filters down below 1 micron which basically means all you have to do is spin filters and top off. Your oil does not go bad because it filters all contaminants that would cause it to go bad.
Now I know a lot of you would probably recoil in fear at that whole concept but I have seen it in action and it does work. Plus I have used amsoil in several of my cars. I do not use it anymore for one reason. Its hard to get because its not retailed like other synthetics it is sold multilevel. You can find some places that carry it but its market penatration is limited.

good point haha.. I have other things I am worried about but only the situation involving the 240 needs to be posted here on zilvia ^_^ My first prioritie is obviously finding a job that can offer me more hours than my current one. Once that situation is resolved I can move on to looking for a place.. which I have many plans for already. Thanks for the honesty ^_^

Wow I have been looking at sers all day long online and these suckers are hard to find in my area.... everything I see for sale goes so quickly. I had no idea these cars were so poular. I dont really notice too many of these cars around so I guess that explains the quick sale time... I e-mailed a few ppl about there cars but have yet to hear anything back so well see I guess. reading this post kinda is depressing mang... i hope everything with your family gets better. as far as buying a sentra i think its cool but just make sure the car your looking into wont cost you more in the long run as far as reliability. i find that my 240 is a stress reliever when i have problems because when i go through tough times like recently just ended a 3 year relationship my car kept me busy through those times even though i didnt buy anything new for it, just kept my mind off things. good luck

Thanks for the comment dorifto... I agree the cars we drive and work on can be great stress relievers. I am at a point now where all my work and focus ahs to go into my photo. I have to put everything into that. At least the ser will still be fun on those random "drives"

94 se-R, with those 17'' allow rims, he has flow masters on it..and thats about it, some racing seat covers and flame steering wheel. last time i checked the car had aroun 140,00 miles..but hes a mech, so he maintans that car well. he also has an old 300zx like a 87

yea my car is actually posted on there for sale as well. I think I might actually pick up the 1.6 version sice im buying it to save money and mpg. That SR20forum place is cool, I have found a lot of cars for sale on there but none real close to me. Theres two on CL right now but so many ppl are interested i dont have the cash to bargain.
