Otherwise called "mountain racing".
I just went with my friend pretty early this morning and I must say that its pretty fun. Not bad for my first time through the mountain pass :yum:. The only things I have to worry about is the oncoming cars [especially if its a police car] :squint:. What about you guys? Post your experiences here.

Oncoming traffic a problem... when your racing... on the street.
I suggest stabbing yourself in the eyes with a sharp/ dull object, this way you can't drive a vehicle on a public road again, endangering the lives of innocent people.

hehe hell yah.. cuz it gets alot of attention now a days.. even stupid magazines use the words touge etc.. the very reason it becomes a problem is becuase media starts to show it.. street racing is a real big problem, and we got movies and stupid video games showing it, so it aint gonna stop, just ruin every guy driving a modded car to either get stolen or harrased by cops.

You know what I did last night, I went to a in door gocart track. I know it's not driving my car on a track, but its alot more fun when your not worried about crashing your car. Ya know? Point is go to a track.

If you say you crossed the line on the road, which is the only way you'd have to worry about oncoming traffic, then I will honestly attempt to turn you into the authorities because you are seriously dumb.

I cruise the mountain passes out here at night, I dont really call it racing because no one ever seriously goes all out and one time when me and another guy battled seriously he ended up crashing into a bush lol. I wish there was more one way mountain passes in so cal.

I dunno why people still think that it's cool to race/go crazy on public roads.
For example. I was asking for someone who is rich enough that they own a parking lot that they can close down or whatever..and this guy answer me like this.
Are you talking "DRIVING" as in technical highspeed cornering/drafting/trailbraking/heel-toe'ing/double clutching/apex carving?
Or "driving" as in japanese/redneck/engine blowing/tireblowing/wheel curbing/"style". A.K.A. drifting
If your looking to"Drive" Than I could tell you of a few very tecnical highways That I frequently use to push my car to its limit.
If you want to drift than you should call up 244-3555 and tell them to have a cruser meet you at a random parking lot with an "exhibition of horsepower" citation ready for you to sign. that will save you time and a set of tires.

bleh. glad you didn't get in an accident.
word of advice, people hate street racing in here, and consider mountain running just as bad.
of course i still do it, and i'll admit it, but if you want to talk about touge, it's best to go to private-access mountain-running boards (if you can get in any) to talk about it.
the reason is, that people just can not relate.
there's a difference between a good mountain road that you can semi-safely run on (if you use common sense and control yourself in an effort to learn and make baby steps to progress) and a horrible high-traffic, populated road that connects surface streets on both sides.
Try finding roads that are in the middle of mountain roads that lead to the actual run section.
Around here in socal, we have one run in which you must drive 15-20 miles of mountain terrain to get to.
So there is absolutely no commuter traffic at around 1-2AM on week nights (there are a few, but VERY rarely do they commute through at that time).
And you don't have to follow my advice, but I suggest you practice in ONE LANE for a while, just so that you don't fuck up as easily, and avoid hitting oncoming traffic in your beginning stages, if you keep going.
Try to keep it safe by staying in one lane. I mean, sure you may 2-lane later on, but there's reasons you don't want to 2-lane as a beginner that most people don't care about and disregard.
#1. It will save oncoming traffic alot of trouble, since you'll probably screw up your first few times anyways.
2. It's really hard to learn apex/line on a public road, and dangerous to yourself and others. One laning will get you an idea of the basics of driving.
3. You go quicker/faster, and have to brake more when you use the entire road, so it's easier to make a mistake.
4. You have to learn how to use limited space (one lane, behind the yellow double line) before you can somewhat semi-safely use the whole road, and you have to learn how to be able to see oncoming traffic (headlights in the distance, from the mountain sides) and learn how to take blind corners.
If you ever do 2-lane, at least do not 2-lane on blind corners.
If you cannot see 2 corners consecutively in front of you, you should not take the turn on the opposite lane.
With those words of advice, I end my post. Like I said, talk about it somewhere else and keep it low key.

"Mountain Racing" is no fucking joke. Like all these guys have said..keep it on the track, please. Have respect for those mountains, forget being cocky. Here's me after a run-in with a side of a mountain..

Mind you, this didn't occur after an attempt at touge racing. Just a bad case of understeer (we had a whole bunch of shit in the car, we were on our way to go camping). Friend's car was totalled..and i was the only one that ended up in the hospital. Concussion, black eye, temporary memory loss, IV's up the ass, and damn hospital bills that im still dealing with 6months later. Lucky for you guys who do this shit and come out safe with your car still running..

EDIT: posted too slow. Hamsterball offered some good advice if you absolutely must run mountains.
But please, keep it on the track. If you can't, then do it descretly (sp).

I don't see anything wrong with touge driving. I mean if its an organized street race, that's a little... eeeeehh... but spirted driving on your own free will in the mountains I think it a great feeling.

We're all against street racing.
But I know everyone here has done some "spirited driving" on local roads also. We just discourage it. The last thing we want to hear about is a crash, which is why we simply emphasize to keep it on the track.

I will stop the bleeding now, this thread was a bad idea from the outset. Street racing of any kind is still street racing and it is still stupid, OMGWTFBBQ made a funny though, I laughed and showed people.
