View Full Version : KA-T randomly raising RPM?

Alright, so Evan (NemeGuero) asked me to post this.

Anyway, apparently when the car's in neutral, the car will rev to and idle @ 3000 rpm. He put it in gear, drove fine, and when he put it in neutral again it rose to 3k again.

The kicker? He just had his Biki board soldered on a few days ago, but the jumper that tells the ECU to read off the board isn't on. I'm sure I missed some stuff.
Any takers on the problem?

Thanks Jess.

So after solderng in the bikirom, my battery dies over-night. At first I thought it was because I had mounted it in the trunk with a poor ground (I didn't sand the paint away) but over-night seems kinda quick.

Anyway, so yeah.. my idle jumped to 3k while I was in neutral. I pushed on the brake and then released and it dropped again. Then it started to raise again and so I clutched in, put it in gear and clutched out. No matter what I tried it would hang at regular idle.. 900rpm for a few seconds and then climb back to 3K.

So I'm thinking it's something electrical for that reason. I checked the throttle wheel while it was climbing and it wasn't stuck or anything.

Ideas? I'm gonna check the alternator and fuses and such.. then I'm going to try to remove the board and see if that remedies it.

Also, my 97 auto ECU and 96 manual ECU no longer start my car. Currently I'm using a 95 manual ECU and even though I should be throwing codes.. none show up.

And.. my brake lights stay on while I drive. Its been doing it since I bled the system and replaced the booster and master cylinders.

I know its a lot.. but any ideas on anything is much obliged.

So... anyone who has any ideas.. I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance.

My car does that too..and I gave up trying to solve it. Usually I just floor it in 1st and 2nd gear and the idle will be fine.

Someone mentioned TPS in a similar idle thread.

can you rev higher than 3k rpm? Try changing the rev limiter on the bikirom map to like 2k rpm and see if it'll bounce off of it... just to see if the ECU is actually reading from the Bikirom memory and not in limp mode.

Maybe try unplugging/plugging the TPS plug and see if it changes at all?

Also what happens if u put the defrost on?

Battery dying probably isn't related to the different ECU... hrmmm

Yes I can drive normally, it's just during idle that I have this problem. But I haven't removed the jumper yet, so shouldn't it be reading from the ECU anyway, not the board?

I'll give the TPS a shot. And the defroster.

Thanks

pvc pipes? and loose hoses? try playing with the idle screw?

tps probably or the maf can do it too

Wouldn't MAF cause more problems? Its only an *idle* issue and its picky. Sometimes she'll behave.. other times, not.

And TPS.. maybe..
Does anyone have any other method to test it besides checking the voltage?
I don't have access to my FSM as I'm using a friends computer so can anyone give me the pins to measure across and voltage read-out?
97 KA

thanks
Evan

It sounds like your grounding is wrong somewhere.

any thoughts on that to do to make it idle normally? I see you're sitll idling @ 900...

I checked the resistance of the ground cable for my battery and its 0.5 Ohms. Seems like a solid ground to me.

Also, after I jumped the car.. the voltage on the battery WHILE running was only 12.6V. Off, the battery read 11.6V. The voltage on the alternator while the car was running was 12.6 Volts too..

So when I got home tonight, (1.5 hour drive) the battery voltage when I turned it off was 13.5 and coming down. Doesn't this elminate alternator as a problem?

The solderings on the biki-board were fine.. no shorts in the ECU anywhere...

Also, I think I found my idle problem. My EGR block-off plate is leaking vacuum. I tightened it down and the problem hasn't been happening since.

Now.. why is my battery dying?
